The 2023 activity report has just been published

Discover the 2023 report to the public on the work of the CIVS. Submitted to the Prime Minister and published in French, English and German, this annual report gives an account of the Commission's activities. 2023 is marked by the drafting of the law of July 22, 2023 on the restitution of cultural property spoliated in the context of the anti-Semitic persecutions perpetrated between 1933 and 1945, and by preparations for its implementation.

Restitution: at the heart of CIVS missions. The first part of the activity report describes the Commission's contribution to the preparation and implementation of this legislative reform, and presents the actions of the CIVS and its partners in favor of the restitution of looted cultural property.
Compensation. The second part of the activity report reports on recommended compensation paid to the families of victims of anti-Semitic spoliation. In 2023, these indemnities recommended by the CIVS represented 4.2 million euros to be paid by the French State.
Remembrance. The third part of the activity report highlights the Commission's contribution to the work of remembrance, through its publications and the events it organizes, mainly on a Franco-German level.

In 2023, 77 files were examined in session and 46 files were processed under the Chairman's procedure.
85 new files
In 2023, 85 new files were registered, 12 of which specifically concerned cultural goods.
